Two plane rides and a crazy cab drive later...

Finally, after two planes and a crazy cab ride, I am in Bangalore, India. Today is my second day here, we spent yesterday getting used to the city and the time difference. I don't know what I expected but I was definitely surprised.

We're staying in a hostel at New Horizon College [and I'm a bit embarrassed to say i've been calling it New Century College...yes, after the Chinese food restaurant in Binghamton]. Unfortunately, the hostel feels like a prison. The gates are locked from 10pm to 6am and the rules conveniently posted on the back of my door tell me that there is a curfew and I am not allowed out past 10pm without permission. Our dining area, while small, serves delicious indian meals and some american options. I had REAL authentic, delicious, and very spicy curry for lunch yesterday. The men working in our dining area are very eager to serve us. We've been told that wherever we go in India, the people will want to help us as much as they possibly can.

My room is spacious for two people and we get our own bathroom so I really cant complain. The only thing getting used to is showering. There is no tub or separation so the water from the shower head pretty much floods the bathroom. Brushing our teeth is a bit strange because we have to use bottled water. For the most part it hasn't been difficult getting accustomed to the differences.

Overall, I'm happy to be here and I'm going to try to make the most of the next five weeks. There is no use in complaining [like some of the girls on my program]. I'm in India and I don't know when I'll have the opportunity to come back.

Because we don't get internet connection in our hostel and only in the library I don't know how often I'll be able to write. As long as you keep reading and hopefully commenting, I'll keep writing.

p.s its about a 10 hour time difference here. Its 1:15 am New York time and 10:49 am here.

Miss you all!
